Deli Reset: Watch for Hillshire Farm Meat

This week is also tagged as a Deli Reset, and it will not hit every store as a penny.

This reset has included quite a bit of Hillshire Farm deli meat – but only carried at Dollar General Market stores, which are the larger-format stores with an actual deli section. Regular Dollar General stores do not carry it, so do not expect to find it everywhere.

How These Items Actually Ring Up

Scan any of these in the Dollar General app first. If it is genuinely a penny item at your store, the app will show a price of $0.00, just like this real scan of the Silk Soymilk from the list above:

That is the easy part. Where it can get confusing is at the register, especially for cold or refrigerated food items like the hot dogs and cookie dough on this list.

Dry goods usually just ring up straight to $0.01 on the register screen. Cold food penny items commonly work differently: the item first rings up at its full regular price – say $4.00 – and then, once the cashier hits total, a separate line appears labeled something like “promotion” for -$3.99. The two lines together bring it down to a penny, and your receipt will show the total amount you saved at the bottom instead of a flat $0.01 line item.

Do not panic if the screen shows full price for a second – wait until the cashier hits total before deciding it did not work.

Before You Go

Remember, this is YMMV (your mileage may vary) – not all stores will have these as pennies, even within the same week. Before you scan anything, double-check that your Dollar General app has the correct store location set, or the price it shows you will not be accurate.

Check every shelf, check every row,
That’s how deals start to show.
