This one is big. The Mega Clearance Cleanout list goes live Friday, September 4, and it is a long one — more than 20 pages of items, all with scannable barcodes.
What this list is
A majority of these have already been ringing up at a penny since the mid-August clearance cleanout, but they did not go at every store.
The expectation is that once the clearance event wraps up Thursday night, everything on this list should penny at every store around 2 am EST Friday morning. So Friday is the day to go looking.
How to use the barcodes
Every item below has its barcode printed right on the page. Pull this post up on your computer or browser and scan the barcode straight off your phone with the Dollar General app.
- The app tells you whether the item is still in stock near you– this is not always accurate but it gives an idea of what stores you should specifically check for an item.
- It usually shows you a picture of the product too, which helps a lot when the description is vague or abbreviated.
- And it shows you the price — if it is a penny at your store, it will come up as $0.00 in the app

More will likely drop Friday morning
This list is not the final word. More pennies will more than likely drop Friday morning, and I will be updating this post as fast as I can as more get confirmed — so check back before you head out.
One thing that really helps: add these items to your list in the Dollar General app as you go through them. Then you have something to go by while you are standing in the store, instead of trying to remember what you were hunting for.
Be kind out there
Penny items are not supposed to still be sitting on the shelf, and an employee can tell you no. If that happens, be nice about it — it is not the cashier’s fault, and arguing is not going to change the price. A polite thank you goes a lot further, and it keeps stores from getting fed up with penny shoppers altogether.
Please also leave the store the way you found it. If you pull things off a shelf or dig through a bin, put it back where it belongs. The mess is what gives penny shopping a bad name, and the employees are the ones who have to clean it up.

Remember this is YMMV — your mileage may vary. Even after the clearance event ends, not every store resets on the same schedule, so what is a penny at one store may still ring up full price at another. Before you scan anything, double-check that your Dollar General app has the correct store location set, or the prices it shows you will not be accurate.
